CANADIAN TIRE..........BECOMING A ONE STOP SHOP?

Coming soon to a Canadian Tire near you.
While people are getting an oil change or even picking up a can of WD40 you can swing by one of the isles to pick up cereal. Your probably thinking did I just read that, and the answer is yes, yes you did. Canadian tire is trying to expand their product line.  There grocery section isn’t that big though, It only consumes about 2% of the space in the store. Right now they are currently testing out this new idea in some stores in Canada. By some I really do mean some, its about 2 or 3 stores currently that have this option. Companies basically want to make things more convenient for them. This will limit the amount of time that a person travels to go do all their shopping. Instead of them going to 3 or 4 different stores they just have to go to one. This is a little weird to see a hardware place sell groceries. If that’s what the consumer wants then that’s what they are going to get.
What do the rest of you think about Canadian Tire selling Groceries?

  1. Hey, love your blog layout, it looks nice. The content as well of course, it taught me a few things I didn’t know. I just wanted to share that I don’t like the idea of Canadian Tire selling groceries. Big companies such as Wal-Mart and now Canadian Tire are adding food to their product line because they are greedy and want to make more money, in my opinion, not because they want to make things easier for the consumer. I personally think it’s pretty unsanitary to sell groceries that people eat in a hardware store where there are so many tools, garden supplies including soil, key cutting, and an auto shop, all around your food. I would not want to eat what has been sitting around that store. Of course, some small things are alright, such as canned products or cereals, but if they go on to actual meat and produce, that will be awful. I think big companies should leave groceries to grocery stores, since that is all they sell and their employees are all focused on keeping that food fresh, and not a thousand other things they would have in mind at a store such as Canadian Tire.

    1. Think about it Wal-Mart is pretty much the same as Canadian Tire. The booths have an automotive are and they booth sell garden supplies. In my mind they are booth the same. The point of a business is trying to make money right? To do this they have to expand their line and make people want to go to Canadian Tire and buy various items. Think about it the longer that you are in the store the more you will probably impulse buy. You end up leaving the store with more stuff then you actually needed.

  2. Yes, I know they are basically the same store with a different name, that is why I would never buy any food from Wal-Mart either, unless it is in a package of course. You are right though, what they are doing is smart from a business perspective, and it will work on impulse buyers or people who like the whole one-stop-shop idea, but I prefer quality over convenience for my food so I will not be one of them. Not to mention the poor customer service stores like Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire offer.
